Proconex employees recently collected 1,200 pounds of food and cash donations to help combat childhood hunger in partnership with a local organization, Operation Backpack. Many school age children reportedly come to school hungry and the statistics are 1 in 6 children in America faces hunger.
To help alleviate childhood hunger, employees brought in nonperishable food items, snacks, packs of juice and water. All of the food is collected at Operation Backpack’s facility and put into individual backpacks. The backpacks contain enough food for dinner on Friday night, and breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday and Sunday. Volunteers pack the food items into backpacks every Wednesday evening and the backpacks are sent out to qualifying students who discretely pick up the backpacks each Friday and return them on Monday.
Operation Backpack helps 31 schools within 4 school districts. Currently, there are over 200 students in the program.
The Proconex Community took on the challenge of fighting childhood hunger one backpack at a time!
